Black Friday can feel SO overwhelming: the countdown clocks, the endless deals, the pressure to buy more, and fast. But this year, I’ve been trying to slow down. To shop with intention. To remember that thoughtful gifts matter more than last-minute ones.
This weekend, here’s the philosophy I’m leaning into (and hoping to inspire in others): fewer things, better things, chosen with care.
1. I’m Not Buying Mass-Produced Toys
The ones that flash, beep, and break before January.
Instead, I’m choosing open-ended, sustainable toys that spark creativity and actually last. The kind that can be passed down and still look beautiful.
2. I’m Not Buying Non-Organic Cotton Clothes
Fast fashion for babies might be cute, but it rarely lasts beyond a few washes — and it often comes with materials I don’t want on my daughter’s skin.
I’m choosing GOTS-certified and organic cotton pieces that are breathable, durable, and gentle on both baby and planet.
3. I’m Not Buying Last-Minute “Anything Will Do” Gifts
You know the kind... the ones we buy simply because they’ll arrive quickly.
This year, I’m planning ahead. Slowing down. Choosing gifts with intention, not urgency.
4. I’m Not Buying for the Sake of Buying
We all already have so much.
One meaningful, well-made gift is better than five that won’t last past the season. Ultimately, the most valuable gift we can give is our time. If your loved ones already have everything, spend some time together! Go for a hike or on a fun trip. Go out to dinner, go grab a coffee at the cafe you've been meaning to check out but never have.
